We benchmarked overhead costs of publishing houses in 6 countries and generated savings of 250% versus initial planning for Ringier Axel Springer AG
Challenge
Our client needed to reduce overhead costs in order to close the gap between performance and plan as well as to prepare the organisation for future market transformation challenges. Gottstein Consulting took charge of managing the project in which various country offices resisted initially claiming that a benchmarking approach would not work as their respective markets were too different.
Solution
By implementing a very transparent methodology combined with intense communication Gottstein Consulting established fair and well accepted KPIs in all relevant overhead areas. In cooperation with the client’s internal departments all obstacles were mastered. Those countries with inferior performance to benchmarks started right away to tackle weaker areas, one country underwent a serious restructuring. Gottstein Consulting helped with project management, coordination and action planning.
Results
Initial savings goal outperformed by 250%. The organisation was well prepared for future market transition challenges and the gap between performance and plan could be narrowed.
